Ron Harmon is a member of the Francis Howell School District Board of Education, having been elected in April 2023. Harmon’s primary focus on the board has been on providing better oversight of the district’s financial matters, particularly concerning the controversial Prop S projects, including the significant overspending on the Francis Howell North High School. He has expressed frustration with what he perceives as financial mismanagement by the previous board and has emphasized the need for fiscal responsibility and transparency.
In addition to his concerns about district finances, Harmon has shown interest in overseeing the development of the district’s curriculum, ensuring that it aligns with what he believes are the best interests of the students. His platform during the election highlighted the need for tighter control over both budgeting and educational content in the district.
Harmon, along with other board members, voted to remove Black History and Black Literature electives from the district’s curriculum, a decision that has been met with significant criticism from various community members. The FHSD5 reinstated the classes after removing “social justice” from the materials.
